Franz Fischler, Europe’s Agriculture Commissioner, described discussions between the EU and India over future agricultural trade within the World Trade Organisation (WTO) as “fruitful” after talks between the trading blocks in New Delhi yesterday.

A number of bilateral issues, including the Indian exports of sugar, Basmati rice, mushrooms and fisheries products were discussed at the meeting.
“India and the EC are major players in the WTO agricultural negotiations, so a better understanding of our respective positions can only contribute to making the ongoing WTO negotiations on agriculture a success,” Fischler said.
