UK supermarket chain Asda has said its underlying percentage sales growth was in the high single digits for the third quarter, helped by higher sales of non-food products, such as clothing.

Asda, which is owned by US retail giant Wal-Mart, said its food sales growth was in the high single digits on a like-for-like basis, boosted by its new premium food range, reported Reuters.

The company said it had opened six new stores this year. “All the stores we’ve opened and extended this year have performed above our expectations and we’ll work hard to ensure that this continues…” Asda’s president Tony DeNunzio was quoted by Reuters as saying.
