Groupe Casino has opened a hypermarket in France aimed squarely at female consumers in the massive Odysseum complex in the city of Montpellier.

Casino Geant said the emphasis of the store is on fresh produce and own-label brands, as well as textile, household goods and leisure products, with the 12,000 sq m hypermarket linked by tram and road access.
 
Of the products available, some 200 are dedicated to local manufacturers whose offers are labelled “Sud de France” to promote the contribution from the surrounding Languedoc Roussillon area.
 
As well as the online ordering facility, Casino said customers can also pick up produce from the Odysseum site, whose opening has created 250 jobs.
 
“Geant Casino Odysseum breaks with the classic hypermarket concept,” said Geant Casino managing director Jean Duboc. “The shop concept bears witness to this: the accent is on fresh and catering products, while the non-food area has a lifestyle theme.”
