It also ordered the company to stop mislabelling meat products with false information as to the origins of the meat, and confirmed that FTC officials had proved six counts of mislabelling.

Between January 1999 and January 2002, SBF’s meat centres in the Kanto and Kansai regions shipped US pork labelled as sliced Kagoshima Prefecture roast pork, and US and Aomori Prefecture pork as high-quality pork from Kanagawa Prefecture.

The officers added that between April 2000 and last November, Snow Brand also sent to retailers Australian beef repackaged as domestic beef.

The FTC is also currently investigating meat packer Starzen Co and chicken processor National Federation of Agriculture Cooperative Associations (Zenno) for labelling scams.
