Dairy farmers are threatening to block a A$100m aid package because it does not cater for all the farmers hit be deregulation. The Australian Milk Producers Association is set to ask the Australian Democrats and Australian Labor Party to block the measure until a fairer offer is given.

Many farmers can expect to receive between A$27,000 and A$30,000 in compensation for the difficulties that have been caused by deregulation. Nearly 500 farmers from Queensland are ineligible for the financial aid however, having already been driven out of business by the changes in the dairy industry.

The money was offered within the framework of the Australian budget on 22 May.
