Laaksonen (50) is currently senior executive vice president, Fine Paper at the Finnish paper and packaging group Stora Enso and a member of the company’s executive management group.
He is scheduled to take up his new appointment on 15 August.
In a statement, Valio’s board directors said it was looking for someone to develop the Valio Group on the basis of its current strategic cornerstones of the strong Valio brand, world-class R&D, increasing sales of consumer products in what it sees as its home market of Finland, Russia, the Baltic States and Sweden, and maintaining a cost-efficient production structure.
“Mr Laaksonen is also a good personnel director and understands Valio’s business culture in which the profitable development of operations is most important as opposed to growth at any cost,” said Valio chairman Antti Rauhamaa. “Pekka Laaksonen is a driver of major visions. He possesses the interactive expertise to develop Valio’s operations throughout the home market, working together with good personnel and management.”
