Meat exporters are expected to hear today that the US government will delay the lifting of tariffs and quota restrictions placed on Australian lamb, despite the fact that the WTO has ruled that the measures are unfair.
The WTO ruling was made on the 6 December 2000, but as yet the US government has not complied by lifting the trade restrictions, and officials are warning that further delays are sure to anger the Australian Government and farming industry groups.
Australia is now expected to ask that the WTO set an official deadline for the lifting of the trade restrictions.
