Lidl dismissed Mros in April, after it emerged that the group had kept detailed notes on the health of employees from May 2008 to the start of 2009.

The scandal came barely a year after Lidl was fined EUR1.5m (US$2.4m) when the company was found guilty of hiring private detectives and using hidden cameras to monitor staff.

According to a report in German magazine Der Spiegel, Mros is now set to take the helm in the UK, although no timetable for his appointment was given.

Lidl was not available for comment as just-food went to press.
