UK-based business The Covent Garden fresh soup company has closed down its Modesto, US plant as part of its restructuring plans.
Plant manager Dennis Wilson revealed that the parent company is mulling a buyout bid, and that financial support for the two-year old Modesto plant collapsed when the bid was received.
The plant used a variety of locally produced ingredients, from dairy products to olive oil, and the closure has meant that almost all of the plant’s 25 employees have been made redundant. Wilson revealed however that he hoped the plant would be reopened once the restructuring programme is completed.
Sales of the company’s fresh soups have been encouraging, and sales volume has doubled in the past year, Wilson added.
