UK poultry supplier 2 Sisters Food Group remains in talks with its retail customers over fulfilling orders as it continues to deal with the fall out of a fire at a key manufacturing site.

The blaze at the 2 Sisters plant in Morecambe damaged much of the factory and has left sections of the site that are still unsafe, a spokesman told just-food today (1 June).

The Morecambe facility is one of four processing sites run by 2 Sisters in the UK. The company plans to switch production to its other facilities and is looking into ways of also moving staff across.

“It’s not ideal but it is something we are looking into as an option,” the spokesman said.

2 Sisters serves “half a dozen” retail customers from the Morecambe site, he added, and the group is in discussions about how to continue supply.

The spokesman said it was “too early” to estimate how much the fire could cost 2 Sisters. He added that it was unclear what caused the blaze at the factory, which makes ready-to-eat and rotisserie products.
