Nestlé today (20 May) unveiled plans to open its first research unit in Japan.


The Swiss food giant said the facility, which has been set up with help from the University of Tokyo, will focus on nutrition and health.


Nestlé and the university also plant to work together on “Food for Life”, a programme to explore research in fields like healthy ageing, mobility and cognitive performance.


The world’s largest food maker has three factories in Japan and sells a portfolio of products including coffee, chocolate and pet food.


Nestlé has been present in Japan since 1913. Today, Nestlé Japan operates three factories and has a strong brand portfolio in coffee, chocolate and nutrition products as well as pet food.
