Japan saw its domestic production of frozen food products rise by 3.7% last year following two consecutive years of decline, the Japan Frozen Food Association (JFFA) has announced.

To the detriment frozen food exports from China, the total consumption of cold cooked vegetables and frozen food imports from overseas production dropped 7.3%, according to the JFFA.


The survey by the association citied scares over tainted Chinese frozen food, particularly frozen dumplings, which have helped steer domestic consumption back to local trusted brands.


Consumption of frozen foods overall was also up owing to price cuts by convenience stores and other retailers, the JFFA said.
