Mars Food UK has issued a recall for various Dolmio and Uncle Ben’s branded sauce products over fears that they could be contaminated with traces of metal.

According to the UK’s Food Standards Agency, which has issued a food alert, the traces of metal are thought to be small pieces of copper wire.


The company, a subsidiary of US giant Mars, has recalled the affected batches as a precautionary measure.


The recall includes: Dolmio Tomato and Cheese Pasta Bake, 500g jar with a best before of 25 March 2010; Dolmio Red Sauce for Lasagne, 750g jar with a best before of 25 September 2010 and 1 October 2010; Dolmio Tomato and Basil Culinary Sauce, 2.29kg (catering pack also sold through wholesale outlets) with a best before of 19 September 2010; and Uncle Ben’s Chilli Con Carne Culinary Sauce, 2.3kg (catering pack also sold through wholesale outlets) with a best before of 20 March 2010.
