UK retail giant Tesco has bought a bulk of Woolworths plc Easter eggs, increasing its orders for the period by 15%.

The purchase includes all of Woolworths ‘exclusive’ stock and novelty items, which Tesco said will be what its customers will be looking for at Easter.

“We are known by our customers for the novelty trade and we know it is something they will be interested in,” a spokesperson for Tesco told just-food.

The store will also be selling the eggs at a lower price than that of Woolworths. For example the spokesperson said, an Easter egg gift pack will be sold for GBP2.49 (US$3.54) as opposed to GBP4.99.

Woolworths called in the administrators in November. The last of its 807 stores across the UK was shuttered last month when a buyer failed to materialise, resulting in 27,000 redundancies.
