The move follows similar measures introduced by UK dairy groups – including Arla Foods and First Milk – in response to dropping prices on the global dairy market.

“The price drop reflects conditions on the international dairy market,” a spokesperson for DFB told just-food.

However, dairy farmers have reacted angrily to the news, which is likely to put further strain on an industry that is already struggling to stay afloat.

“We face the serious possibility that a great number of farmers will be forced out of dairy production if processors keep slashing their payouts,” a spokesperson for the National Farmers’ Union warned just-food.
