Ministry official Zhao Tonggang told delegates at a high-level Beijing forum on food safety yesterday [Sunday] that unsafe usage of pesticides and growth-enhancing hormones are the major causes of food poisoning outbreaks, as farmers are often tempted by profits to use banned pesticides, chemicals and hormones in a bid to increase production.



Health Minister Zhang Wenkang has urged for improvements in the food inspection system, and argued for the need for frequent checks at every part of the food production process. He is quoted in chinadaily.net as saying: “We should educate food producers to strictly follow the Law on Food Hygiene and enhance their consciousness of professional ethics.”
