In future, meat manufacturers will be unable to sell Thüringer Leberwurst, Thüringer Rotwurst and Thüringer Rostbratwurst in the EU unless they are made in Thuringia, central Germany, according to traditional local sausage-making traditions.


These three geographical indications join a list already sporting around 600 traditionally made European food and drink products. However, until now, Germany only had three protected processed meat products, with the bulk of its designations being beer or mineral water.
