Polish pork meat exporters are due to be given renewed EU market access in the next few days, with certification that Poland’s domestic pork is free of swine fever.

The Chief Veterinary Officer, Andrzej Komorowski, expects a decision to be made at the next meeting of the EU’s Permanent Veterinary Committee on 21 November [Wednesday].

The continuation of EU export possibilities is expected to rescue many smaller Polish firms from the threat of bankruptcy after weakening domestic demand saw sales plummet.

According to the November issue of Prawo i Gospodarka, industry sources believe that a positive decision will enable Polish firms to increase the share of their income from exports to around 30% from the current level of 10%.
