The award. which is considered the equivalent of the US’ Malcolm Balbridge National Quality Award and the European Quality award, was collected by BM Vyas, MD of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF).

As India’s largest food company, GCMMF markets several brands, including Amul, Sagar and Dhara. Its turnover exceeds Rs 2300 crore a year.

Amul brand officials explain that GCMMF embarked on a Total Quality Management (TQM) scheme to strengthen the business against competition in the light of the emerging trends of liberalisation and the impact that WTO will have in the future.

Amul also offered the TQM initiatives to its business partners, including farmers, wholesale distributors or retailers.
