“The product has been removed from sale as a precaution. Laboratory tests are still being conducted to determine whether it is the source of the outbreak,” a spokesperson for the company told just-food.


The Chevrita spokesperson said that all of the company’s dairy products are manufactured using pasteurised milk. The listeria bacteria is unable to survive pasteurisation “under normal circumstances”, the spokesperson said.


According to Chilean reports, four people have died and around 90 people have fallen ill in the outbreak.


However, officials at Chile’s Ministry of Health (MINSAL) were unavailable for comment at time of press.
