The National Farmers’ Union (NFU) has attacked supermarkets for their aggressive pricing stance in negotiations with suppliers.

Speaking to just-food, the NFU warned that some supermarkets are marking suppliers bear the brunt of the price war being waged to attract consumers during the economic downturn.
“Some of the big multiples are asking suppliers to fund their price cuts and this is having a huge impact on producers, many of whom are already struggling in the difficult climate,” the NFU said.
According to the union, this strategy could have “disastrous” consequences for agricultural production in the UK.
