B&G Foods has bought the Violet Packing tomato business to capitalise on the firm’s “competitive strengths”, the US food group has told just-food.
The acquisition of Violet Packing, a business that includes the Sclafani, Don Pepino and Violet brands, was announced on Friday (19 November).

The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed but, as part of the acquisition, B&G has acquired the Violet Packing name and a manufacturing facility in Williamstown, New Jersey.
A spokesperson for B&G Foods told just-food that the company was interested in the Sclafani and Don Pepino brands because they are “well-established brands with loyal followings” in the foodservice and retail channels.
The Sclafani and Don Pepino products include pizza and spaghetti sauces, crushed tomatoes, tomato puree and whole peeled tomatoes. The products are sold to foodservice distributors, restaurants and retailers throughout the eastern parts of the US.
B&G Foods, however, did not acquire Violet Packing’s DeIorio pizza dough business because the company not currently compete in the frozen food category.
The spokesperson said B&G would continue to look for further acquisitions.

“Since 1996, we have successfully acquired and integrated approximately 20 separate brands into our operations, including Ortega, Cream of Wheat, Polaner, B&M and now Sclafani and Don Pepino,” he added.
