In a cautionary tale for any companies hoping to skimp on the cost of ingredients, Daventry magistrates’ court has handed out a £3,000 (US$4,280) fine to Westmill Foods for doing just that.

Westmill Foods pleaded guilty under the Trade Descriptions Act for selling prawn crackers that did not contain any prawn meat.

Ironically, the company’s cracker snacks boast the celebrity endorsement of top chef Ken Hom, who is quoted on the pack as praising the “authentic ingredients”.
