Swiss food and beverages giant Nestlé has said it plans to soon open a sales office in Iraq to take advantage of business opportunities there.

“We have the intention to open an office, but its too early to say how big it will be,” spokesman Marcel Rubin was quoted by Dow Jones as saying.

Nestlé already has a presence in neighbouring Iran, where it operates a dairy factory under the name of Nestlé Iran Private Joint Stock Company. The spokesman said the Nestlé has not yet decided whether or not to expand that operation.

In 2002, Nestlé generated total sales of CHF89bn (US$64.3bn), of which CHF3.9bn came from its operations in Africa and the Middle East.
