The agency said the ban was the result of sanitary concerns that arose from a joint Russian-American inspection of poultry companies in July and August.

According to the agency, 29 other US companies have been warned to improve their standards.

Russia is the largest export market for US poultry, making up 33% of total US chicken exports. In the first half of the year, US producers shipped US$395.7m-worth of broilers to Russia, up 42% from the previous year.
