UK online retailer Ocado has acquired a site for the construction of a second distribution centre.

The 35.2 acre site in Dordon, north Warwickshire, will be the location for the retailer’s second “customer fulfiment centre” and is expected to generate around 2,000 jobs at peak capacity, the firm said today (12 October).

The site, expected to cost GBP210m, is also set to “double the potential capacity of the business” and expand Ocado’s geographic coverage.

Work will begin on the 350,000 sq ft facility with immediate effect and the centre is expected to start operations at the end of 2012.
