Retail giant Tesco has denied reports it is to open a new office in the US city of Chicago.

The UK retailer, which last week announced plans to expand into India, is reportedly appointing executives from property firms to examine the location for the site.

However, the company, which is continuing to extend its Fresh & Easy chain along the West Coast of the US, played down rumours of a move into Chicago.

A spokesperson for Tesco told just-food: “We are always looking for new locations but we have no current plans to open a store in Chicago.”

Tesco last week announced the opening of a Fresh & Easy store in San Diego. The company said it has a further five planned for the same city.
