US food group Smart Balance has introduced a lactose-free, fat free and enhanced calcium milk product called Smart Balance Lactose-Free Fat Free and Calcium milk.

The manufacturer of “heart healthier” foods said the new product has the “rich, creamy taste of 2% milk without the saturated fat” and has 75% more calcium and 20% more protein that whole milk.

The company said it created the lactose free product to meet the needs of the “estimated 50 million people in the US who are lactose intolerant and cannot digest milk products.

“We are pleased to offer lactose-free milks which taste great and deliver on the Smart Balance promise of heart-healthier benefits,” said Chief Marketing Officer Greg Venner.
