Bondi, a turnaround specialist, is the man credited for returning the Italian dairy giant to profitability after an accounting scandal resulted in its financial collapse at the end of 2003. He has led the company out of bankruptcy and pursued a number of lawsuits to claim damages from those who allegedly helped to cook Parmalat’s books while it was under the control of former management.

According to a report by Italian newspaper MF, Bondi may be asked to help revive Alitalia from bankruptcy. The newspaper said that Bondi met with government ministers to discuss the move yesterday (7 August).

When contacted by just-food, Parmalat declined to comment on the report.
