Swedish confectioner Cloetta is to cut fewer jobs than it initially planned at one of its two domestic manufacturing sites.

The company said today (14 September) that it would axe 17 posts from the Ljungsbro facility amid plans to switch part of the site’s production to Finland.

Earlier this month, Cloetta had warned some 28 positions could be lost. However, Cloetta said today that, after negotiations, there is now “scope and opportunity for ongoing skills development in production”. Two more employees will be appointed to work on training.

“A major focus on skills development that has among other things resulted in greater flexibility, coupled with a strong belief in continued positive sales growth for the rest of Cloetta’s product range, has led to a lower need for workforce reductions than was estimated at the time of original announcement,” said Cloetta MD and CEO Curt Petri.
