JBS is joining forces with US firm Jack Link’s Beef Jerky to produce meat snacks from two of the Brazilian meat giant’s domestic production sites.

The deal, announced yesterday (13 September), will see JBS supply the raw material at market prices and the two sides “jointly operate” the two facilities, which are based in Sao Paulo state.

JBS then plans to sell the semi-manufactured product to Jack Link’s for further processing and distribution in the US and other overseas markets.

“We are forming an ideal partnership in bringing together the largest beef producer with the number-one meat snack team to grow this business at a time when consumers are turning more and more toward healthy protein concentrated snacks”, Wesley Batista, president and CEO of JBS USA, said.

JBS, meanwhile, will sell its meat snack plant in the US town of Mankato in Minnesota to Jack Link’s for an undisclosed sum.

Jack Link, the US firm’s CEO and chairman, said the venture was “the perfect match”.

“Partnering with JBS in Brazil enables us to be the best, jointly, at what we do, and the addition of the Mankato plant gives us the opportunity to expand on our existing production operations and enhance our ability to meet our customers’ needs,” Link said.
