Loyalty Management UK, which runs the scheme, said that there are now more than 13 million Nectar accounts in the UK. In the last 13 weeks, 10 million of those accounts were active, reported Dow Jones International News.

The Nectar programme was launched in September 2002 and enabled consumers to collect loyalty points at UK supermarket chain Sainsbury’s, department store chain Debenhams, credit card firm Barclaycard and fuel retailer BP.

Other companies, including Thresher Stores and Vodafone have since joined the scheme.
