The EU and twelve nations including Australia, Canada, Japan and the US have been discussing the idea in Geneva.


The talks come as the World Trade Organisation (WTO) debates in the same city updating its TRIPs agreement on trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights.


The European Commission said recent discussions on forge a global anti-counterfeiting trade agreement focused on “border measures”, particularly dealing with large-scale intellectual property infringements.


Participants will explore civil enforcement of anti-counterfeiting rights later this month.
