President Felipe Calderon said the move will stay in effect until the end of the year.


“After meeting up with members of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (CONCAMIN), the president reported that from today until the last day of this year, the prices of various products… will remain stable,” the Mexican government said in a statement yesterday (18 June).
 
Last month Mexico removed import tariffs from a number of foods and cut prices of home-grown rice to 10% below international market prices.


The Mexican government has introduced these measures as part of a package to ease the effect of rising food prices on consumers.
