Sysco Corp, the largest foodservice marketer and distributor in the US, has named Nino E. Barbon president and COO of its Canadian subsidiary North Douglas Sysco Food Services (NDSFS).
Sysco has also announced that Armando A. Barbon, currently president and CEO of the Victoria, BC-based NDSFS, will become chairman of that operation and continue his duties as CEO. Both men will assume their new positions on 30 June 2002, the beginning of Sysco’s FY 2003.
Nino Barbon, 37, began his foodservice career in 1988 as director of information systems at North Douglas Food Services. He progressed to VP of marketing in 1993, was named senior VP in 1996, and in 2000 was named to his current position when Sysco acquired North Douglas Distributors.
Armando Barbon, 64, opened a family-run delicatessen in 1972 following his emigration to Canada from Italy. As demand grew, he entered the wholesale distribution business and founded North Douglas Distributors.
NDSFS supplies about 7,000 products from its 120,000ft² operation, including fresh seafood, fresh meats and produce as well as traditional foodservice products.
