French retailer Les Mousquetaires is aiming for market share of 15% through the expansion of the number of Intermarché Express and Netto outlets it operates.

The company will roll out its Intermarché Express outlets, aiming to operate 24 by the end of 2010.

It also plans to increase the number of Netto stores it operates to 600 within the next three years.

The new strategy is part of the retailer’s focus on smaller stores in more central locations.

The Intermarché Express outlets cover 700 square metres in city centres consisting of ready-to-eat and convenience food, with a dining area. Only one store under this banner has been opened in Nice, but there will soon be openings in Rouen, Toulouse and six stores in Ile-de-France region.

A new organisation will be established to give the outlets more flexibility at a local level, as well as decentralising buying decisions into eight regions to the company can match each store to its size and catchment areas.
