Thai Union said the acquisition, which was carried out via its subsidiary Thai Union International, would help boost its presence on the US market. The company acquired its US Chicken of the Sea subsidiary over two years ago.

New York-based Empress imports and distributes frozen and fresh seafood products under its Xcellent brand.

“The synergy between these two companies provides Thai Union greater access and penetration in the US seafood marketplace,” Thai Union President Thiraphong Chansiri was quoted by Reuters as saying.

Thai Union said its two US operations could generate more than US$550m in annual seafood sales revenues.
