US natural and organic food group Hain Celestial has snapped up UK business Churchill Food Products for an undisclosed sum.

Hain, which runs its Daily Bread business in the UK out of its Luton facility, said the acquisition of the Nottingham-based Churchill would expand the number of customers it serves in the country.

“The addition of Churchill’s expands our customer base for food-to-go offerings in the United Kingdom,” said Hain president and CEO Irwin Simon.

“We view this as a strategic acquisition to broaden our customer base and our Daily Bread branded products.”

Hain sees the deal as a way of helping its UK business turn a profit. The company believes the business, which includes the Linda McCartney brand, will become profitable in its next fiscal year, starting in July.
