FrieslandCampina has insisted its plan to reorganise its R&D sites in the Netherlands will not lead to job losses at the Dutch dairy giant.

The company said today (21 May) that it will close two facilities in Deventer and Tilburg and keep its site in Wageningen.

Some 250 employees work across the three sites, which focus on consumer dairy, cheese and ingredient products.

However, a spokesman for FrieslandCampina told just-food that, although some staff may not be able to move to Wageningen, the total number of staff employed would remain the same.

“By bringing these people together we can improve the generation and exchange of knowledge. We will increase our innovative power,” the spokesman said.

“Costs are not the primary reason for consolidating these activities. We really convinced that bringing these people together will help to accelerate our innovation process.”

While FrieslandCampina is keeping a presence in Wageningen, the company has yet to decide whether to stay in its current location in the town or move to a new site.

A decision will be taken later this year, the spokesman added.
