Sodium metabisulfite can be a health hazard to people who are sensitive to sulfites, particularly asthmatics. Some persons who have eaten foods containing sulfites have reported adverse reactions ranging from mild to life-threatening.

The products subject to recall are one pound packages of “O¹NEILL¹S BRAND DANNY¹S OWN RECIPE BEEF BANGERS” and “O¹NEILL¹S BRAND DANNY¹S OWN RECIPE PORK BANGERS.” Each package bears the establishment code “EST. 8756” inside the USDA seal of inspection.

The product was produced between Dec. 19, 2001 and Jan. 8, 2002 and distributed to retail stores in Connecticut and New York.

“Because of the potential health hazard involved with consuming these products, consumers who have concerns about sulfites should return the products to the point of purchase,” said Maggie O¹K. Glavin, FSIS acting administrator.
