US food group Hormel Foods plans to add a canning line to its new manufacturing site in Iowa this summer.

Hormel today (30 March) marked the official opening of its new production facility in Dubuque, which makes Hormel Compleats microwave meals.

The plant currently employs 90 staff but, with a spokesperson for Hormel confirming that a new line is set to be added later in the year, more jobs could be created.

“We plan to add more lines in the future, including a canning line which will be added this summer. It has not yet been confirmed which product will be produced in the canning line,” the spokesperson said.

At full capacity, the plant could employ 300 people.
