Supervalu Inc has named former United Supermarkets CEO Dan Sanders as president of its Acme Markets banner.

Sanders replaces Judith Spires, who resigned earlier this month and has taken over as president and CEO of Kings Supermarkets.

Before taking the helm at Texas-based United Supermarkets, Sanders had also served as the chain’s chief marketing officer, as well as overseeing HR operations.

“Dan comes to us with a wealth of experience in the grocery industry and is well-positioned to continue to grow Acme in this market,” Pete Van Helden, Supervalu’s executive vice president of retail operations, said.

Acme operates 124 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.
