Israeli retailer Blue Square has named a new CEO following the resignation of Zeev Kalimi in December last year.

Zeev Vurembrand, currently CEO of Pheonix Investments and Finance, will take up the helm at the food retailer in May.

Vurembrand previously held the position of independent director and chairman of the audit committee of Blue Square between 2001 and 2006.

Blue Square suffered a setback in December when Kalimi asked to step down as CEO just two months into the job.

The company has also appointed Uri Falach as the chief operating officer for Blue Square, effective immediately.
