Tate & Lyle Sugars is releasing a product containing stevia, the plant-based intense sweetener that received EU approval last month.

American Sugar Refining (ASR), which created Tate & Lyle Sugars after acquiring Tate & Lyle plc’s sugar operations last year, is launching Light at Heart, a blend of cane sugar and Stevia leaf extract, in January.

The company said the product is twice as sweet as regular sugar, so consumers only have to use half as much, and is predominantly aimed at families.

Light at Heart is available in 450g tubs in white and brown sugar with an RRP of GBP2.19 (US$3.40) and GBP2.49 respectively. The launch will be supported by a national marketing campaign and the product can be used to sweeten hot drinks, sprinkled on cereal or used in baking, the company added.

Tate & Lyle Sugars’ senior vice president for sales and marketing Andrew Jones said: “Giving families a balanced diet can be hard work, and Light At Heart is the natural solution to help mum achieve this.”
