Italian supermarket chain Esselunga is reportedly eyeing expansion in the country’s capital, with the planned opening of outlets in Rome within a year.
According to Italian reports, the retail chain, which is owned by the Caprotti family, intends to open two-to-three superstores in the city.
Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony awarding him an honorary architecture and restoration degree at the University La Sapienza, Bernardo Caprotti reportedly indicated that the supermarket operator has already identified two sites for the development.
A spokesperson for Esselunga declined to comment further when contacted by just-food.
Esselunga currently operates a network of 140 superstores and supermarkets in Lombardy, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Piedmont, Veneto and Liguria.
