Upmarket UK retailer Waitrose has announced the introduction of a “quick and easy meal deal” promotion.

The supermarket group is offering consumers the chance to purchase a prawn- or meat-based main and side, dessert and bottle of wine for two for GBP10 (US$16). The promotion will run until 12 January.
A spokesperson for the company said that Waitrose seeks to deliver “quality and value” to its consumers through its every day prices as well as promotions such as this one.
Rival retailer Marks and Spencer runs regular “Dine in for GBP10” promotions in a bid to highlight its value credentials.
Today, M&S posted a 0.4% rise in like-for-like food sales in the 13 weeks to 26 December among a set of numbers that disappointed the market. Shares in M&S were down more than 5%.
