Nestle said today (21 November) it will boost production of its frozen pizzas business by expanding its Wagner factory in Germany.
The EUR45m (US$60.6m) extension of the factory in Otzenhausen will increase production of Wagner branded frozen food products such as Big Pizza, Piccolinis and Die Backfrische, the company said.
When the expansion is complete in 2013, production is expected to increase from 70m to 350m products a year. Nestlé entered a joint venture with Wagner in 2005 and increased its stake in the company to 74% last year.
Nestle added DiGiorno, Tombstone, California Pizza Kitchen, Jack’s and Delissio brands to its portfolio in the US and Canada, after buying Kraft Foods’ frozen pizza business last year.
“Nestle has proven to be the ideal partner to develop our business worldwide and to develop it in new markets. Today we are one of the largest manufacturers of frozen pizzas in Europe,” said Gottfried Hares, managing director for Wagner.
