HJ Heinz has revealed the second US site to be closed as part of the revamp of its global supply chain.

The company will end production at its site in the town of Stockton in California in December. The facility, which employs around 140 people, makes Heinz ketchup and canned tomato products for the foodservice sector. Production will move to three other Heinz sites – one in Escalon in California and two others in Fremont in Ohio and Muscatine in Iowa.

Heinz said it was “committed” to “continuing its leadership” in ketchup and tomato products and said it would be “better positioned to do so with a more consolidated, more efficient and effective manufacturing footprint”.

The company said in May it would close two US plants amid plans to restructure its supply chain and manufacturing network around the world. Heinz announced then that it would close its King of Prussia production site in Pennsylvania. The facility made soup for foodservice customers.

The restructuring included plans to close or sell five plants worldwide. As well as the two sites in the US, Heinz has plans to close a site in Australia and in Poland, with the fifth site has yet unannounced.
