The talks follow a 24-hour strike by 40 maintenance workers at McCain’s Ballarat plant yesterday. The industrial action led to McCain standing down 300 production staff at the site.

McCain said it had offered the maintenance workers a 9% pay hike over three years but claimed the industrial action was “in relation to other claims”.

Union officials could not be reached for immediate comment.
