Revenues in the retailer’s food and liquor division climbed 4.9% to A$6.59bn. Convenience sales grew 1.9% to A$1.85bn.

Managing director Richard Goyder said he was pleased with the sales results and the “continuing positive customer response” to improvements made by each of the group’s retail divisions.

“Pleasing transaction and volume growth was achieved in the period, ahead of sales growth, as Coles continued its focus on improving product quality, service and value,” he said.
